Hydroid Flashcards
Water
Is the MOST POWERFUL geomorphic agent, shaping the landscapes
Streams
Connects terrestrial land to the ocean, it also is important for transportation and consumption and agriculture
What are the three main streams?
Perennial Stream, Intermittent Stream and Ephemeral Stream
What contributes to the streams?
Precipitation, overland flows (mudflow with no vegetation) and Interflow (flows in the soil, moving towards the streams) and Groundwater
Watershed
vary’s in sizes
ex: Mississippi river
Dentritic System
floods faster than the parallel because of the braches
Truck
largest stream in a drainage basin
Tributaries
Streams that contribute to the truck
-branches or arms
Confluence
Is where tributaries meet the trunk
Stream Ordering
Numeric values given to a stream to provides information about the potential are that contributes to the stream
Confined (Normal)
water will flow downstream within banks
Unconfined (Flood)
water flows in all direction
Stream Gradient
Gives us an idea of the gravity to resisting forces acting on a stream
Perennial Stream
flows year round
Intermittent Stream
flows for part of the year and is connected to the ground
