hydraulic system testing and service Flashcards
the first step in trouble shooting prosses is to
gather information on the type of hydraulic system you are working on ( service manuals , service bulletins , operators manual )
when trouble shooting a hydraulic system what is the first check you should perform
check the oil level in the tank
normal operating temp is between
150 to 180 degrees F
how can you warm the oil before preforming tests
by bottoming a cylinder or stalling motor
what is actuator cycle time
the amount of time taken for the actuator to complete a cycle ( full retract to full extend )
a quick test to see if pump flow is normal is to preform
actuator cycle time
what is the purpose of a hydraulic stall test
so see how fast the engine is turning when the hydraulic system is a maximum load
if engine rpm drops excessively during hydraulic stall test
engine lacks sufficient power to handle the load or relief valve has been adjusted higher than specification creating excessive load on the engine
if engine rpm dose not drop sufficiently during stall test
engine power has been increased or the relief valve has been set to low
what protects a pressure gauge from pressure shocks or spikes
snubber
what is a snubber
are orifices that are placed in the gauge to dampen pressure spikes . three types of snubbers are porous element , restricted opening , spiral passageway
when installing a pressure gauge you must
install it In parallel
when reading at the inlet of a pump and the gauge reads excessively low
pump inlet might be restricted , pump driveshaft speed is too high , wrong oil is being used
when checking components for excessive internal leakage
check for heat build up
when checking components for small amounts of internal leakage
preform a drift test
