Q

look at example 1 and other questions to see how they work

A
area of x= 0.5m squared
are of y= 5m squared
pressure of x= force of x / area of x
=50/ 0.5
=100Pa
Some liquids are incompressible
therefore pressure of x= pressure of y
so pressure of y= force of y/ area of y
therefore force of y= pressure of y x area of y
=100 x 5
=500 N

Q

look at hw question

A

a) P of y= 0.5m x 800kgm^-3 x 10Nkg^-1
= 4000Pa

b) lower level of piston is same horizontal level as Y
so 4000Pa= ?
therefore low level of piston= 4000Pa

c) A=0.1m^2
    P=F/A
so F=PA
F= 4000 x 0.1
=400N

d) W=mg
so 400= m x 10
So M=400/10
=40kg
