Form 3 Term 1 Flashcards
two types of quantities
base/fundamental and derived ( it is fundamental for physics… see what I did there)
any other quantity than the ones with a standard for measurement of the same kind of quantity can be expressed as
a multiple of the unit of measurement
no. of base/fundamental quantities
5
the five and their units are
length,l-metre,m time,t-second,s mass,m-kilogram,kg temperature,T(must be capital)-kelvin.K electric current,I-ampere,A
prefixes for S.I units
Mega,M- 10^6 Kilo,k- 10^3 Centi,c- 10^-2 Milli,m- 10^-3 Micro, check book for symbol- 10^-6
1 ms( millisecond)
1*10^-3s
=1/1000
=0.001s
eg. of derived quantities
volume, force, acceleration, velocity, resistance (namely anything that can be measured
units of derived quantities are referrred to as
derived units
derived units can be found
by using the defining formula for the quantity
the unit of a specific quantity changes, true or false
false- area of square is m square, just like area of a rectangle
study rules of indices
too much work to type
regular shapes are
shapes that can be recognised, squares rectangles triangles circle etc
irregular shapes are found by using
the counting the squares method
steps to find irregular shapes
divide the irregular shape into regular shapes that you can recognise
find the area of the individual shapes then add them up
for ease of calculation, we
divide the shapes into squares
