Humerus Flashcards
What are the essential projections for a humerus image?
AP
Lateral
What should the patients position be for an AP humerus?
standing, seated, or supine
What position should the cassette be for humerus image?
lengthwise
part position: where should the top border of the IR or light field be?
approximately 1 1/2 inches above humeral head
what should the rest of the part position be for an AP humerus?
slightly abduct humerus from body and supinate hand
coronal plane passing through humeral epicondyles should be placed parallel to IR plane
Where should the central ray enter for an AP and lateral humerus image?
perpendicular to midportion of humerus and centered to IR
What should the collimation be for an AP/Lateral humerus image?
2 inches distal to the elbow joint and above the shoulder
1 inch on the sides
Are there any respiration instructions for a humerus image?
yes, the patient must hold their breathe
What are the structures shown/evaluation criteria for an AP humerus?
hints
Joints
rotation?
what should be in profile
lesser tubercle?
Elbow and shoulder joints should be seen
humeral epicondyles without rotation
humeral head and greater tubercle in profile
outline of lesser tubercle, located between humeral head and greater tubercle
What should the part position be like for a lateral humerus?
place top border of IR approximately 1 1/2 inches above humeral head
internally rotate humerus and flex elbow 90 degrees and rest palm of hand on hip
coronal plane passing through epicondyles
Eval: how should the elbow and shoulder joints appear in a lateral humerus image?
visible but slightly distorted due to beam divergence
Eval: what should be in profile for a lateral humerus?
the lesser tubercle on medial aspect
eval: what structures should be superimposed in a lateral humerus?
the humeral epicondyles
greater tubercle superimposed over the humeral head
