What is the lung composed of?
It is composed of parenchyma and is covered by a double walled serous membrane sac called the pleura

Visceral pleura

What’s the space between the serous membrane sac called?
Pleural cavity
What is the superior portion of the lung called?
The apex. This portion reaches above the clavicles.

What is the inferior portion of the lung referred to as?
the base (does not include the pointy ends on the bottom)
What are some characteristics of the base of the lung?
rests obliquely on the diaphragm.
it is lower in the back and sides than in the front
What are the pointed ends on the bottom of the lung referred to as?
the costophrenic angles.
What is the medial border of the lung called?
the hilum
What fissures separate the right lung?
The oblique fissure and the horizontal fissure
What fissure separates the left lung?
oblique fissure
