Feelings of self-worth develop in childhood from the result of a child interactions with parents.
Congruence.
Similarity between a persons ideal self and how they perceive themselves to be. The closer the self image and idea self are the greater the congruence and the higher the self worth.
Conditions of worth.
The love and acceptance given by others that are considered necessary for happiness
Strengths.
Adolescents who experience conditional positive regard are likely to display more ‘fake self behaviour’- doing things to meet other people’s expectations.
