we have the ability to choose and we are in control of are actions and behaviour. They acknowledge that we have constraints on free will such as laws and social rules.
people should be viewed as holistically- assumption 3
There is no point of looking at one aspect of an individual. as that allows for things to be missed. Should looks at the person as a whole through out the entire life.
scientific method is not appropriate to measure behaviour- assumption 4
not scientific. believes scientific methods are to objective as humans are subjective in the way they think and act.
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs
stage 1- Physiological so things like food and water.
Stage 2- safety things like security of job and having a house.
Stage 3- love so relationships family and intimacy
Stage 4- Esteem so self-esteem and confidence respected by others and respect others.
Stage 5- self actualisation
Self-actualisation
a persons motivation to reach full potential.
Congruence and Incongruence
Where a person’s ideal self and actual experiences are consistent or very similar, a state of congruence exits. However a person’s ideal self may not be consistent with what actually happens in real life so a difference may exist between a persons ideal self and experience this is incongruence
conditions of worth
unnational positive regard is when you love and accept who you are.
Unnational positive regard- i love you no matter what.
we sometimes don’t do this and say i love you because … this will make self actualisation harder.
