Describe Hwange Park incident
Collared lion was killed, bringing the are into the international media spotlight. There wasn’t sympathy for the lion from people in the surrounding area who have lost relatives and domestic animals to lions.

Describe issues with Elephants near Hwange National park
As they moved out of the park they damaged crops. There are areas where people haven’t harvested in 6 years because of elephants. This resulted in poverty and hunger, so people started to poison elephants with cyanide by putting it in watering holes. In addition to elephants, this killed lions, kudu, buffalo, hyenas and vultures. The killing of elephants attracted international media attention
What is the CAMPFIRE program?
A program initiated in 1989 by the Zimbabwean government to support community lead development and the sustainable use of natural resources. It allows people to use wildlife on their land for hunting, and is a shift from the colonial policies that made it illegal for local populations to use wildlife in any way.
