The basic entitlements of all human beings, e.g all people should receive an education

Something people feel strongly about or believe in

Pre judging someone without knowing them
What is relative poverty?
standard of poverty measured in relations to standards for society
What is absolute poverty?
Cant access basic human needs
What is social justice?
promoting fair society, ensuring everyone has equal opportunities and rights

each life is as important as eachother, we should respect ignoring age gender and ability.

What is agape in action?
unconditional, selfless love. We do things to benefit others without expecting things in return following example of jesus.
What is liberation theology?
teachings and actions of jesus, he helped to liberate people from unjust. Jesus is a FREEDOM FIGHTER, Christians can take part in peaceful protests e.g Oscar Romero.
Who was Oscar Romero? what did he do?
A priest, close friend was murdered so spoke out against injustice, government banned his meetings and protests, he was gunned down while celebrating mass.
What was a saying associated with Oscar Romero?
‘be a patriot- kill a priest’
What are Muslim views on helping and equality?
everyone should be respect and treated with dignity

In france you can’t wear any overly religious symbols in school

Go on a mission to convert people to their faith, ‘go into all the world and preach the gospels to all creation’

name calling, attacks on place of worship, burning sacred texts, violence.

Minister, non violent protests to support civil rights, imprisoned and suffered violence but didnt retaliate with violence, follows Jesus teachings

God sent angels to earth to collect different types of soil to make men, different colours, strenghs, from different areas

Oxfam indicates 2 million malnourished people in uk.
kids born into poor families are more likely to do worse in school and develop chronic illnesses, repeating the cycle.
What is fair trade?
produced on a small scale farm to meet social, economic and environmental standards
What are christain views to racism and wealth?
peoples values should be judged on their actions not their looks
must ask themselves if their job is helping or exploiting people
quakers are opposed to gambling, gaining at the expense of others
parable of sheep and goat, god judges people of their treament to the poor not their wealth

help those in need regardless of religion, ethinicty or nationality

What are Muslim views on wealth?
wealth is a gift from god, receiving interest on loans is forbidden, cant be money lenders, forbids gambling, pay zakat, khums (wealth tax of 20% in shi’a muslims)
sadaqah- voluntary giving
zakat-id-ul-fitr donation at end of ramadam to give to poor
Muslim children learn about importance of zakah through poems
What is Islamic relief? what do they do?
help those in need, upholding principles of Islam
compassion- support in disaster
justice- raising awareness of marginalised voices
custodianship- recyling and selling donated clothes
sincerity- sponsoring 30,000 orphans in 1 year
excellence- signing red cross code of conduct, set standards on working in disaster zones.
What are humanist views on poverty?
important to care about poverty due to shared humanity
do not believe that we have poverty through punishment or suffering caused by fate, need to consider why there is poverty and actively campaign against it.
Westboro Baptist church?
Banned from entering the UK, hates gays, blacks, abortion.
