What is liturgical worship?
worship follows a very set structure which is the same every time
What is Informal worship?
doesnt have a set structure and is more spontaneous e.g Evangelical denomionations
What is Individual worship?
takes place in addition to worshipping together in church, connects people in a personal way to God
What is the ligurgy of the world?
readings from the bible, (sermon), public confession of faith (reciting apostles or nicene creed), and prayers for those in need
What is liturgy of the Eucharist?
altar is prepared with bread and wine, Eucharistic prayer and lords prayers are said before sharing bread and wine, service ends with blessing from priest and prayers
What is a quote for worship in John?
‘they are the kind of worshippers the father seeks’
what are the different types of prayer?
Adoration- deep love and respect for god
confessional- statement of faith through prayer
penitential- saying sorry
praise- giving praise which might include singing hymns
thanksgiving- saying thank you
supplication- asking for something
what are set prayers?
learning and repeating prayers with significant meaning
‘lords prayer’ exited every christian service
protestant : ‘book of common prayer’
what is extemporaneous prayers?
non-formulaic, spontaneous prayers, more spiritually honest,can think more about the meaning
what are Informal prayers?
speaking to God in a more day to day language
What is Evangelical worship?
Very informal, feel moved by the holy spirit, speak in tongues, movement and participation is encouraged, dancing, music, singing
How do Quakers worship?
Meditation, personal reflection, no set prayers, sitting in silence, no official leader, ministry- someone may feel moved to speak
what does sacraments mean?
outward sign of an invisible and inward blessing by god e.g baptism.
What is baptism?
initiates people into christian church, catholics: washes away sins, some only allow adults to be baptised as they can understand commitment
What is confirmation?
when a person reaches an age when they commit to the church for themselves, they remake the promises that were made by their parent of guardians on their behalf at their baptism
What is Eucharist?
worshippers share bread and wine to remember Jesus death
What is penance?
sacrament of reconciliation or confession.
Confessing your sins to a catholic priest and repenting for them.
what is anointing of the sick?
preformed when a catholic is seriously ill or dying. Priest applies oil to the sick
What are Holy orders?
the way people join the priesthood of the church, being ordained
What is marriage?
spiritual union of the couple and God
What are the two sacraments protestants recognise?
baptism and the eucharist (holy communion), these were the only two sacraments documented in the gospels as being practised during Jesus life
What happens at a baptism?
needs to be carried out by an ordained minister or an authorised lay person. Most christian churches allow children to be baptised celebrating birth of a child and marking their entrance to christianity. God parents and parents promise to bring them up in the christian faith, many children have a confirmation cerenomy in early teens.

Why dont Quakers or salvation army believe in sacraments like holy communion and baptism
because they believe people may get so caught up in external rituals that they forget the importance of God
Why is baptism important?
rite of entry allowing people to join christian church.
