- Often cheaper than other forms of training
- Business can make use of its own facilities and staff

- Cost-effective because employee works and learns at the same time
- Easier to monitor the success of the training

- Often given by colleagues so bad working practices can be passed on
- Internal trainers may not have the skills requires
- Takes the trainer away from their own job

Where does off the job training take place?
Away from the workplace.
Where is off the job training appropriate?
When the employee needs to know general information about the business or procedures.

- External trainers are experienced
- External trainers can have greater knowledge than people in the business
- Workers can be motivated to gain qualifications and new skills

- Often general and not specific to business
- More expensive than on the job training
- Normally involves at least one day off work so cover needs to be provided
