What is the difference between training & career development?
Training -> what you need right now
Career Development -> training for the future
Explain the expressions “Demotion”, “Downsizing” & “Outplacement”
Demotion = opposite of Promotion
Downsizing = cutting down number of employees
Outplacement = taking care of ppl who got fired due to changes, to show that they treat ppl nicely (e.g. severance pay)
Explain “Taylorism”
= time of scientific management, where they tried to find the ‘one best way’ to get work done (efficiency increase, mass production, repetitive tasks, reduction of labor costs, zero interest in people, “ppl are replaceable)
➡️ Time & motion studies were undertaken to find out how to do things in the least amount of time/least amount of motions
What is the difference between a Mediator & an Arbitrator?
Mediator = neutral party (3rd) that makes a recommendation
Arbitrator = neutral party (3rd) that makes a decision
What is the difference bewerten “Eustress” & “Distress”?
Eustress = positive & motivates you
Distress = negative, overwhelmes you
What is the goal of “Performance Management”?
To maximize the overall productivity level
What is a “Performance Appraisal”, what are its goals and what are the 5 steps?
Review/evaluation system, to provide feedback, encourage improvement and identify L&D needs

- Trait System ➡️ evaluates employees based on quality of work, cooperation & creativity (subjective 🤨)

- Result-based System ➡️ focus on measurable outcomes (e.g. sales)

Halo effect = positive effect, higher equity, more trust
