- causes lining of uterus to grow
- stimulates the release of LH which causes the release of an egg
Where is progesterone produced and what is its role?
- in ovaries by the remains of the follicle after ovulation
- maintains the lining of the uterus during the 2nd half of the cycle-when it falls the lining breaks down
- inhibits the release of LH and FSH
How does the embryo develop?
- once implanted into uterus lining, placenta develops-allows the exchange of water, oxygen and waste
- the amnion membrane forms, surrounding the embryo and is full of amniotic fluid which protects the embryo
