Human Reproduction Flashcards
Temp in scrotum
2-4 degrees lower then body
Testes are located
In the scrotum
Testes are the site of making hormone
Testosterone
Ovaries are found
In the abdominal cavity
-made of thousands of follicles
The follicles produce hormone
Estrogen
Female sex hormomes
Estrogen and progesterone
-regulated by LH and FSH
Estrogens
Develop female reproductive tract
- important for sex drive
- secreted by ovarian follicle
Progesterone
Secreted by corpus luteum
-prepares for implamtation of zygote
Menstrual cycle
1 folliclular phase
2 ovulation
3 luteal
4 memstruation
Follicular
- reproductive hormones are at their lowest
- negative feedback is stopped which allowsFSH to promote the development of the follicle within the ovary
- the follicle secretes estrogen
Ovulation
- an ovarian follicle bursts and releases an ovum that will be captured by the oviduct
- caused by high LH levels
Luteal ohase
-LH induces the ruptured follicle to develop into the corpus luteum which secretes estrogen and progesterone
Menstruation phase
1 if thr ovum is NoT fertilized the corpus luteum atrophied
-drop in progesterone and estrogen. Gives rise to menstrualflow
2 if fertilized the placenta produces hCG
