Human Nervous System Flashcards
1
Q
Why is coordination and control essential in the human body?
A
It is essential for maintaining internal balance (homeostasis), responding to stimuli, and performing daily activities, including voluntary and involuntary actions.
2
Q
What is the structure of the human nervous system?
A
The human nervous system consists of the central nervous system (CNS) which contains the brain and the spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system (PNS) contains the ganglia and nerves.
3
Q
What are the types of neurons?
A
The types of neurons are motor neurons and sensory neurons.
4
Q
How is a nerve impulse transmitted?
A
- Nerve impulse reaches axon terminal at the end of the axon.
- A chemical called a neurotransmitter is released into the space between neurons (synapse).
- Neurotransmitter carries the message from the axon of one neuron to the dendrite of the next neuron.
- Dendrite receives the chemical message and sends off an electrical signal.
