Human Computer Interface - HCI Flashcards
Name five factors that should be taken into account when deciding a good HCI
Layout has to be appropriate to task - eg. Large/ minimal text for a child user to minimise reading which builds up user confidence
Consistency of signposting and pop up information - eg. Every ‘Next’ should be in the same place using the same icon
Clear navigational structure - helps users learn their way around the system
Differentiation between user expertise - types of users eg. HCI needs to differentiate between non-technical and technical users
Disabled access eg. If a person is blind then the computer could recognise voice input
What is the different needs of a novice and an expert computer user?
The novice priority will be ease of learning
The expert user will want to get the job done in the shortest possible time
Name three ways in which a HCI can satisfy the needs of an expert and novice users
Novice will need clear navigation structure / colour scheme making it easier to use
Novice will use help screens to show them how to do things
Expert user knows the commands and therefore will find it quicker than clicking through a series of windows
Name four ways in which a HCI can meet the needs of a young child
Have a minimum amount of text on the screen
Use bright colours to attract the child’s attention
Animation/videos to keep child’s interest
Instant feedback on their responses
Name 4 ways in which a HCI can meet the needs of disabled user
Use of voice recognition for users who cannot use keyboards/mouses
Ability to magnify areas of the screen to aid users with bad eyesight
Use of a large mouse to aid those with poor coordination
Use visual messages rather than beeps for users who are def
