Q

What’s the enhanced greenhouse effect and how does it form?

A

.Human activity increases the natural volume of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere
.This means more infrared heat is reflected back at earth and trapped in the atmosphere
.This leads to an increases in global temp

Q

How does industry contribute to the enhanced greenhouse effect?

A

.Industrial growth requires large amounts of energy, this is mostly generated by fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas being burned
.When fossil fuels are burned they release large amounts of C02 into the atmosphere

Q

How does transport contribute to the enhanced greenhouse effect?

A

.As countries develop and people have more income, cars become more accessible and more people travel abroad.
.Almost all transport includes the burning of fossil fuel, which releases C02 into the atmosphere when burnt

Q

How does agriculture contribute to the enhanced greenhouse effect?

A

.Growing population has led to a higher demand for food
.Deforestation occurs in order to make more farmland- as trees absorb carbon dioxide, cutting them down will lead to the increase in concentrations in the atmosphere
.Rice and cattle farming also release huge amounts of methane into the atmosphere

Q

How does Energy contribute to the enhanced greenhouse effect?

A

.The demand for electricity is growing because of increasing population and new technology.
.Most energy is produced by burning fossil fuels, which release C02 into the atmosphere

Q

Name and explain 2 causes of rising sea levels

A

.Melting of landlocked ice-
As temps rise it will melt landlocked ice and cause it to drain into the sea, causing a rise in sea levels
.Thermal expansion- Warm water occupies a larger volume than colder water. This means an increase in global temp would warm the oceans and cause it to rise

Q

What are 3 impacts of rising sea levels?

A
  1. Will flood many low lying areas of the world, including Bangladesh and east Anglia
2.Low lying island nations eg: Maldives and Tuvalu, will become completely submerged. Leading to mass migration of their populations
3.More than 1/3 of the worlds population lives within 100km of the coast, many cities and important farmland will become flooded

Q

How does climate change effect food?

A

. Climate change makes wet places wetter and dry places dryer, leading to flooding and droughts. Both situations lead to lower crop yields
.As temp increases once cold areas will become warm enough for pests like locusts to live in, this pests will reduce the farmers yeilds
