Components of Anatomical position?
Standing, facing you, arms at their side and palms facing you.
What is the Midsagittal Plane?
Lengthwise planes that divides the body into equal left and right sides
What is the Sagittal plane?
Divides the body into right and left parts.
What is the Frontal plane?
Vertical plane that divides the body into front and back portions.
What is the Transverse plane?
Plane that divides the body into upper and lower portions.
Ventral position
Front/belly side of the body
Anterior position
Situated in the front. Ex. The nose is anterior to the eyes.
Superior position
Above; toward the head
Cephalic position
Toward the head
Proximal position
Only works for limbs. Closer to the attachment on the body.
Distal position
Only works for limbs. Farther away from the attachment on the body.
Medial position
Toward the midline
Dorsal position
The back of the body or organ
Posterior position
Situated in the back
Inferior position
Lower, toward the feet
Caudal position
Toward lower part of body.
Lateral position
Away from the midline
What are body cavities?
Spaces within the body that contain and protect internal organs/
Dorsal cavities contain?
The Cranial and Spinal cavities
Cranial cavity contains?
Contains the brain and pituitary gland.
Spinal cavity contains?
The nerves and spinal cord.
Thoracic cavity contains?
Contains the heart, lungs, esophagus, trachea, bronchial, tubes, thymus, and aorta.
Ventral cavities contain?
Thoracic abdominal and pelvic cavities.
Abdominal cavity contains?
The stomach, small and large intestine, spleen, pancreas, liver, and gallbladder.
The pelvic cavity contains?
Portion of large and small intestine, rectum, urinary bladder, urethra, ureters, uterus and vagina.
Abdomen Quadrants:
Remember its the dude across from you so the right upper quadrant is your left. Yeah idk why I included this card but :)
The liver, gallbladder, part of the pancreas, part of the small and large intestine.
(RUQ) Right Upper Quadrant
Part of the small and large intestine, right ovary and fallopian tube, right ureter and appendix.
(RLQ) Right Lower Quadrant
Liver, stomach, spleen, part of the pancreas, part of small and large intestine.
(LUQ) Left Upper Quadrant
Part of small and large intestine, left ovary and fallopian tube and the left ureter.
(LLQ) Left Lower Quadrant
Abdominalpelvic regions
They’re the same as the quadrants your right is their left and vise versa THINK OF IT AS A GRID.

POV: LEFT UPPER CORNER
