Human anatomy and physiology Flashcards
What is anatomy and physiology
- anatomy is study of the body structures
- physiology is the study of the structure of the functions of body parts
What are the 4 types of tissue
Epithelial- tightly packed cells that cover surfaces and line cavity’s e.g. skin surface and lining of small intestine
Connective- extra cellular matrix and can transport nutrients e.g. blood, adipose tissue and cartalidge
Muscle- involved in movement voluntary and involuntary then strained or non strained
Nervous- cells if nervous system e.g. brain spinal cord and nerves
What is the integumentary system
- Skin hair and nails
- acts as protection, thermoregulation and sensory detection
- synthesis of vitamin D
What are the layers of the skin, top to bottom
Epidermis- tough outer layer
Dermis- contain blood vessels nerves and glands
Hypodermis- loose connective tissue with fat
What is the skeletal system
- 206 bones, cartilage, ligaments and joints
- moves via muscle attachments
What is the anatomical position
standing upright
facing forward
feet flat facing forward
upper limbs at side palms facing forward
