What symptoms will a patient in menopause experience?
A patient will experience hot flushes, night sweats, inflammation and dryness of the vaginal wall, osteoporosis, sleep disturbance and memory loss.
What is HRT?
HRT is hormone replacement therapy and involves the cyclic and continuous administration of low doses of oestrogen with or with progestogen.
What is Tibolone and what does it affect?
Tibolone is a synthetic compound with weak oestrogenic, progestogenic and androgenic properties and this effects the endometrium preventing post menopause symptoms.
What is Raloxifene?
This is a selective oestrogen receptor modulator with anti oestrogenic effect on breast and uterus tissue preventing post menopause osteoporosis.
In what patient population is oestrogen only HRT used?
This type of HRT is used in patients follow the surgical removal of the uterus.
Why is vaginal oestrogen cream used?
Vaginal oestrogen cream can be used in the treatment of vaginal atrophy as well as relieve the pain experience during intercourse and urination.
