A
Too much cholesterol causing micelles to be unstable
Biliary stasis

What is biliary colic?
A
Pain caused by impaction of a gallstone
In the RUQ and epigastrium, may radiate to the back.

How are gallstones investigated?
A
Ultrasound
Shows GB wall thickening
Can show duct dilation
Good at detecting stones within GB but less good for stones in the Bile duct

What is acute cholecystitis?
A
Pain similar to in biliary colic
Systemic symptoms such as fever
Raised WCC

What tumours can occur in the gallbladder?
A
Adenoma
Adenocarcinoma (90%)
