Myocardial Infarction

A

prodromal symptoms of fatigue, malaise, chest discomfort in days prior

Present with chest pain unremitting and intense for an hour- retrosternal and often radiates to the neck, shoulder and jaws and down to the left arm

associated symptoms:
sweating
nausea
anxiety
lightheadedness
nausea

Angina

A

chest discomfort (pressure, heaviness)

in epigastrium, back, neck, jaw, shoulders

typically precipitated by exertion or exposure to cold or emotional stress

relieved by rest of nitroglycerin

How do left sided and right sided heart failure present differently

A

Both present with:

  • breathlessness
  • fatigue and weakness
  • fast palpitations

Left sided:

  • pink, frothy sputum with cough
  • cardiogenic wheeze
  • cool peripheries

Right Sided:

  • swelling in legs
  • distended abdomen
  • raised JVP
  • pitting oedema
  • hepatosplenomegaly
