How did phase 1 go
Liberation of South Korea
September 1950 180,000 UN and ROK troops went from Pusan Pocket. Douglas MacArthur led UN forces in Inchon in the north west.
2000 KPA at Inchon withdrew swiftly.
250 vessels unloaded 13,000 UN troops. Pusan and Inchon UN forces attacked KPA on two fronts. KPA retreats back over 38th parallel and Seoul is re taken. South are liberated.
Phase 2:invasion of North Korea
US and UNs aims changed they wanted to push communism out of North Korea.
Mao Zedong warned UN if they approached Chinese boarder he would join the KPA.
1st of October ROK cross in North Korea across 38th parallel
9th of October so do UN
19th of October Pyongyang was captured.
By end of month UN and ROK reached Yalu river- border with china. Victory seemed imminent.
