It was an olympics exploited by Hitler in order to get across his third reich ideology. This led to black American Jesse Owens winning gold in the 100m and Hitler refusing to give him his gold medal.

John Carlos and Tommie Smith came 1st and 3rd in the 100m and gave a black power salute on the podium. This was protesting against the racism they experienced in their country of USA as well as the decision to let South Africa participate despite their apartheid regime
