How did law and order affect the way sport was played
Sport now had official rules which kept violence to a minimum. Cruel sports were stopped. Codes of conduct were introduced to stop violence. Safety equipment was also introduced such as gloves
What was spectatorism?
Punters turning up to watch sport.Leagues were created which encouraged fans to travel around the country. These could attract up to 60,000 people to watch football matches.
Who was Billie Jean King?
A female tennis player who beat a man in the Battle of the Sexes which empowered women sport and gave women a role model
Why were towns important for participation?
Offered public baths which were swimming pools as well as darts and billiards in pubs
Why was media helpful for a growing audience?
Media could now broadcast sport through TV and radio. There was a TV boom in 1960/70. This would inspire people to take part in sport
How was there still a difference in the class system?
The upper class and wealthy play sports such as golf and tennis which require an expensive membership. While the lower and working class play sports such as football which doesn’t require much cost or equipment.
