What are hormones?
They are chemical messengers which travel in the blood to activate target cells
What produces many important hormones ?
The pituitary gland
Name two hormones that the pituitary gland produces
FSH and LH
What do the ovaries produce?
oestrogen which is important in the menstrual cycle
Name 3 things nerves do?
1) very fast reaction
2) Act for a very short time
3) Act on a precise area

1) Slower action
2) Act for a long time

Describe the menstrual cycle
1) when the the bleeding starts
2) the lining of the uterus builds up again for day 4-14
3) An egg is released from the very day 10
4) The wall is then maintained for about 14 days until day 28
What is FSH caused by?
An egg maturing in one of the ovaries
What does FSH do to the ovaries?
It stimulates them to produce oestrogen
What causes the pituitary gland to produce LH?
Oestrogen
Where is Oestrogen produced?
In the ovaries
What does oestrogen further inhabit?
The release of FSH
Where is LH produced?
In the pituitary gland
With the hormone LH what does the stimulus do?
releases an egg around the middle of the cycle
What are two hormones that stop eggs from maturing?
1) Progesterone
2) Oestrogen
