Adaptations Flashcards
What is the do plants compete for name 4 things?
1) Light
2) Water
3) Space
4) Nutrients
What do animals compete for?
1) food
2) Territory
3) Mates
Why is competition vital?
To survive and reproduce
What types of things would live in salty conditions?
1) Bacteria
2) mangroves (trees)
What do mangroves do?
Their roots absorb water from the sea without the salt
What things would survive in hot places?
1) Enzymes usually about 37 degrees
2) Bacteria about 80 degrees
3) Camel 40+ degrees
What types of living things survive in high pressure areas (4 things) ?
1) Dolphins
2) Sea mammals
3) Fish
4) Bacteria
What type of things would live in cold environments?
Polar bears and artic foxes
Why are arctic foxes and polar bear good at living in cold environments?
Because they are good at trading air and keeping heat due to a layer of thick fur
What does a whale have to keep it’s self warm?
Thick layer of fat
What do polar bears, arctic foxes and whales do to keep heat in?
They try and reduce the surface area that’s in contact with the air. For example arctic fox has small ears so they can lose less heat
WHAT DOES LARGE SURFACE AREA EQUAL?
EASIER TO LOSE HEAT
What does a cactus have due to dry condition?
A thick stem to store water
