What are hormones
Chemicals released by glands
What are the glands called
These glands are called endocrine glands
Where are hormones carried?
They are carried in the blood to other parts of the body
There are 6 glands what are they
Pituitary Gland Thyroid Gland Ovaries-Female only Adrenal Glands Testes-Males Only Pancreas
What does the pituitary glands do
Releases hormones and these act on other glands
What does thyroid gland do
Produces Thyroxine and regulates heart rate and temperature
What does ovaries do
Produce oestrogen involved in menstrual cycle
What does adrenal glands do?
These produce adrenaline which prepares you for stressful situations
What does testes do
Produce testosterone which controls puberty and sperm reproduction
What does the pancreas do
This produce insulin, which controls blood glucose level
What is the difference between between Neurones and Hormones
Neurones are fast and act for a very short time and act on a very precise area
Hormones are slower and act for a long time and act in a more general way
