What is a hormone and what are they carried by?
A chemical released directly into the blood
They are carried into the blood plasma to other parts of the body
What do hormones do?
Control things in organs and cells that need constant adjustment
Define a hormone?
A chemical messager which travels in the blood to activate target cells
Where are hormones produced?
They are produced and secreted in various glands
They travel at the speed of blood
They have relatively long lasting effects
What does the pituitary gland produce?
Many important hormones including FSH and LH which are involved in the menstruel cycle
What do the ovaries produce?
Oestrogen (involved in the menstruel cycle)
What are the differences between nerves and hormones?
Nerves = very fast action, act for short space of time and act on very precise area
Hormones= slower action, act for a long time and act in a more general way
