Horace 1:3 37-48

illuc praevertamur, amatorem quod amicae
turpia decipiunt caecum vitia aut etiam ipsa haec
delectant, veluti Balbinum polypus Hagnae.

The bracken to be burned is born in neglected fields.
Let us turn our attention towards the fact the foul blemishes
Of the girlfriend deceive the blind lover or even that these very things
Please [him], just like the mole of Hagna pleased Balbinus.

vellem in amicitia sic erraremus et isti
errori nomen virtus posuisset honestum.
ac pater ut gnati, sic nos debemus amici
siquod sit vitium non fastidire.

I wished we erred in the same way in [the case of] friendship, and morality
Had ascribed to that kind of error a decent name.
As a father [does not feel revulsion to a fault] of his son, so
We ought not to feel revulsion if a friend has any fault.
