What mistakes did Hoover make/ why was he unpopular?

A

Hoover believed in rugged individuality, meaning that he was reluctant to help the public. After the Wall Street Crash, he waited years to give money to help the unemployed.
He was not a good public speaker, which made him unpopular.

Why was Roosevelt successful?

A

He was seen as a war hero due to being in charge of the navy in WW1.
He proved he would help people by by spending 20 million dollars helping the unemployed while he was New York governor.
He was a good public speaker, sometimes making up to 15 speeches a day.
He promised USA a New Deal, in which he would help the unemployed, elderly, sick and homeless and ensure that another depression didn’t happen.
