Honors chemistry final: Gas laws Flashcards
Kinetc molecular theory
- gases are composed of tiny particles called molecules that move in a rapid, random, straight line motion
- they collide with eachother and the walls of their container
- they only make up 1/1000th of the volume their in, the rest is empty space
Boyles law
the volume and preassureof a sample of gas are inversely related at a constant temperature
Charels law
the volume and temperature of a sample of gas are directly related at constant preassure
Daltons law
each gas moves all through the entire container; the volume of each gas is equal to the total volume of the container
Gay lussacs law
the pressure and temperature of a sample of gas are directly porportional at constant volume
Preassure
the force exerted per unit of surface area
standard preassure
the normal preassure of the atmosphere at sea level on a fair weather day
temperature
average kenetic energy
as molecules move faster
the temperature increases
absolute zero
the lowest temperature possible; nothing moves
ideal gas law
PV=nRT
