Homeostasis- Temperature Control Flashcards
How does sweat cool the body?
The heat radiated from the body causes the sweat to evaporate and the water droplets to carry the energy away.
>
What does sweating result in?
Water lost that needs to be regained through consumption
> less urine produced
How does the body detect core body temperature change?
Through temperature receptors in the brain that detect the temperature of the blood flowing through them
> through the nerve cell receptors in the skin send nerve impulses to the brain.
How does the body respond to a rise in core body temp?
> blood vessels supplying capillaries dilate, causing more blood to flow through the capillaries so more heat is radiated
> the hair erector muscle relaxes
> sweat is produced by the sweat glands and evaporates, cooling body
>
How does the body respond when the core body temperature drops?
> the vessels supplying the capillaries constrict, so less blood flows to the capillaries and less heat energy is lost.
> hair muscles erect, creating an insulating layer of air
> muscles automatically contract, this requires respiration and releases some energy to warm body
