Biogas Production Flashcards
What conditions are required for biogas production?
30 degrees Celsius
Anaerobic conditions
Why must oxygen not be present?
So that the anaerobic fermentation can take place- the microorganisms can only respire in anaerobic conditions
Why is the high pressure useful?
Because it means that the biogas can be tapped off on demand.
What is the byproduct of biogas production?
The decomposed slurry can be used as fertiliser
What are some uses of biogas?
Cooking
Heating
Electricity production
What are the two types of biogas generators?
Batch generators that are manually loaded with waste and produce an amount of biogas at the end of each session
Continuous generators that have a continuous flow of waste to use- better suited to industry
What are the advantages of biogas generators?
They dispose of waste
They have useful byproducts
They produce an easily accessible fuel
The are more environmentally friendly than fossil fuels
What is the main constituent of biogas?
Methane, CH4
