Stage 1 of the cycle - days 1 to 4
Mensturation - breakdown of uterus lining
Stage 2 of the cycle - days 4 to 14
The lining starts to thicken and becomes thick and spongy with lots of blood vessels, in order to prepare for a fertilised egg.
Stage 3 of the cycle - one day
ovulation - egg is released from the ovaries
Stage 4 of the cycle
maintaining the uterus lining
What are the four hormones involved with the menstural cycle?
- FSH
- Oestrogen
- LH
- Progesterone
What doe FSH do?
FSH matures the egg and stimulates the release of oestrogen
What does oestrogen do?
Thickens the uterus lining and inhibits FSH, whilst stimulating LH.
What does LH do?
Stimulates ovulation
What does progesterone do?
Maintains uterus lining and inhibits LH and FSH.
