Explain ion content… Regulated by kidneys

A

Ions (e.g. Sodium) are taken into the body in food, then absorbed into the blood. If the food contains too much of any kind of ion then excess ions need to be removed. Salty meal contains to much sodium. Some ions lost in sweat (which tastes salty). Kidneys remove the excess from blood, got rid of in urine.

A

A part of the brain acts as your own personal thermostat. It’s sensitive to the blood temperature in the brain, and it receives messages from the skin that provide information about the skin temperature.

Explain blood sugar content…

A

Eating foods containing carbohydrate puts glucose into the blood from the gut. Normal metabolism of cells removes glucose from blood. If you do vigorous exercise, much more glucose removed.

A

A hormone called insulin helps to maintain the right level of glucose in blood, so cells get a constant supply of energy.
