Cells Flashcards
What is the definition of cytoplasm?
Gel-like substance where most of the chemical reactions happen. It contains enzymes that control these chemical reactions.
What is the definition of a cell membrane?
Holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out.
What is the definition of mitochondria?
These are where most of the reactions for respiration take place. Respiration releases energy that the cell needs to work.
What is the definition of ribosomes?
These are where proteins are made in the cell.
What is the definition of a nucleus?
Contains genetic material that controls the activities of the cell.
What is the definition of a cell wall?
Made of cellulose. It supports the cell and strengthens it.
What is the definition of a permanent vacuole?
Contains cell sap, a week solution of sugar and salts.
What is the definition of chloroplasts?
These are where photosynthesis occurs, which makes food for the plant. They contain a green substance called chlorophyll.
The cells of algae e.g. Seaweed what do they have?
Cell wall and chloroplasts.
Wha are the four main parts to a yeast cell?
Nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane and a cell wall
What 3 things does a bacterium cell have?
Cytoplasm, cell membrane, cell wall
Where is the genetic material found?
The genetic material floats in the cytoplasm because bacterial cells don’t have a nucleus.
What cells are in an animal?
Nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondria, ribosomes
What cells are in a plant?
Nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondria, ribosomes, cell wall, permanent vacuole, chloroplasts
