Q

What are three examples of homeostasis

A

Q

What happens when blood glucose level is too high

A
  • Blood with too much glucose flows
  • Insulin is secreted by the pancreas
  • The glucose diffuses/moves from the blood into the liver and muscle cells which turns glucose into glycogen
  • Insulin causes glucose to move from the blood into the cells to be used in aerobic respiration
  • Blood glucose reduced

Q

What happens when blood glucose level is too low

A
  • Blood with too little glucose flows.
  • Glucagon is secreted by the pancreas
  • Glucagon makes liver turn glycogen into glucose
  • Glucose is released into the blood by the liver
  • Blood glucose is increased

Q

How do you treat type 1 diabetes?

A
  • You have to inject insulin into the blood several times a day which makes sure glucose is removed from the blood quickly once food has been digested
  • This stops the level of glucose in the blood from getting too high
  • Diet
  • Exercise

Q

How is type 2 diabetes caused?

A
  • When a person becomes resistant to insulin (the body doesn’t respond to it which causes blood sugar level to rise at a dangerous level
  • Overweight increases chances of type 2 diabetes
  • Obesity is also a major factor
