What is Breakfast
Breakfast is eaten in the morning,the first meal of the day after your blood sugar levels are low from fasting all night.A healthy Breakfast is therefore an essential start to the day
A healthy breakfast should
Give you energy and raises blood sugar levels
rehydrates the body after being without fluids overnight
helps you concentrate
prevents tiredness
Guidlines for planning a healthy breakfast
plan ahead-set up the night before
get up earlyand do not rush,sit down and enjoy your breakfast
have a balanced meal including the 4 main food groups in the food pyramid
include liquids to rehydrate the body after being without fluids all night
high fibre breakfast cereals weetabix
do not add sugar to tea/coffee because sugar is an empty calorie food
What are packed lunches
packed lunches are meals that are packed in bags or containers to be eaten later,Many people particularly teenagers eat a packed luch each weekday
Guidlines for planning healthy packed lunches
Include each of the 4 main food groups in the food pyramid
Avoid empty calorie foods e.g chocolate instead include healthier treats e.g homemade energy balls
consider special dietry requirements
use suitable packing materials and secure reusable containers
do not pack foods that spoil easily e.g banana sandwich instead pack the ingredients seperately so they can be made up fresh before eating

Single-two slices of bread on top of each other
club-a single sliced in half [triangles]
toasted
open-flat pieces of bread with no top
filled-burrito,taco etc
Healthy snacks
carrots sticks with hummus
whole fruit
fruit salad pot
dried fruit
a handful of mixed nuts
celery sticks with home made peanut butter
banana slices with honey
yogurt berries and granola
