Hjulstrom Curve Flashcards

1
Q

What is the hjulstrom curve

A

Shows the relationship between the velocity of the river and the size of the size of the particles that can be eroded, transported and deposited

3
Q

Why is higher velocity needed to transport clay

A

Harder to erode clay and silt as clay particles COAGULATE together therefore they are larger and have increased surface area which requires more energy to erode

Q

What trend does the hjulstrom curve show

A

Larger particles require more velocity
Smaller particles require less velocity
EXCEPT CLAYS AS THEY COAGULATE
