Formation Of A Hurricane Flashcards
Step 1: (conditions required)
26 degrees sea temperature for at least 60m deep
Step 2: (what happens air where and what type of rain)
Air above the sea is HEATED and rises giving convectional rainfall
Step 3: (what clouds form)
Huge thunderstorm cumulonimbus clouds forn
Step 4: (what happens the thunderstorms =>name)
Thunderstorms clump together which is called a tropical disturbance
Step 5: (spin…)
Coriolis force adds spin to the clumped thunderstorms so that they can reach wind speeds of 74mph for category one hurricane
Step 6-8: (what happens in latent heat engine)
Thunderstorms release latent heat as they grow
The storm gets hotter, more air rises and the pressure on the ground drops more
More surface air is sucked in, heated and rises (fuelling itself)
REPEATED
Step 9: (when considered an actual hurricane)
When winds hit 74mph an official category 1 hurricane has been formed
