HIV Flashcards
1
Q
What is HIV
Structure of HIV
A
Virus that infect T cells preventing immune response.
Lipid envelope, capsid with enclosed genetic material (Rna) and reverse transcriptase, Attachment proteins bind to T cells.
2
Q
How does HIV replicate
A
Attachment protein attaches to T cell membrane. Capsid fuses releasing RNA/ reverse transcriptase- this makes complimentary DNA strand from RNA. DNA moves to nucleus and creates Mrna which makes viral proteins.
3
Q
Why antibiotics do not work
A
Antibiotic kill bacteria target metabolic reactions. Virus rely on host cell for metabolic reaction so ineffective
