Antibodies Flashcards
What is a Antibodies structure
What do Antibodies do
4 polypeptide chains , one light and one heavy , has constant region and antigen binding site.
They assist death of pathogen by agglutination- clumps cells so easy for phagocytes to locate/engulf.
What are monoclonal antibodies
How is it used to treat cancer cells
Single group genetically identical B cells, bind to anything you want.
Antibodies produced are specific to antigen to cancer cell , so receptors attach to antigen preventing chemical signal which prevents growth. Non toxic/ few side affects.
Pregnancy test
Monoclonal detect HCG in urine, they are linked to coloured particles. If hcg present forms antigen antibody complex, as urine moves up strip complex trapped forms blue line.
