Why did Hitler sack Hjalmar Schact and replace him with Göring in 1936?
Schact did not build up the miltary forces quick enough
Describe Göring’s four-year plan
> Aimed for autarky (self sufficiency)
> Focused on rapid rearmament- tanks, aircraft and ships
> Conscription introduced in 1935
How did the RAD (National Labour Service) reduce unemployment?
> From 1935 it was compulsory for all men aged 18-25 to serve for 6 months in the RAD
> Gave young men the job of building autobahns, hospitals and schools.
How did the KDF (Strength through joy) help to control the workforce?
> Improved leisure time of German workers
> Emphasised the ‘beauty of labour’
> 5 marks per week to own the new ‘Volkswagen’- the people’s car
How did the DAF (German Labour Front) help to control the workforce?
> Banned all trade unions and strikes
> Wages set by DAF
> Hard to get a job if you weren’t a member
How was there ‘invisible unemployment’ in Nazi Germany?
> Jews sacked (were not counted)
> Unmarried men under 25 pushed into RAD
> Women dismissed from professions
> Nazi opponents removed
