Why did Hitler want the Treaty of Versailles to be scrapped?
It was a symbol of betrayal and humiliation.
What was Grossdeutschland?
The idea that all German-speaking people should be united in one country.
What was Lebensraum?
Germany taking the land it needed to fit all German-speakers in. This also meant invading countries that weren’t German-speaking as well (e.g. Poland, rest of Czechoslovakia).
Why was Hitler allowed to get his way?
Countries needed time to build up their forces.
Appeasement.
USA didn’t get involved in European disputes.
League of Nations were powerless and couldn’t enforce decisions.
Britain and France preoccupied with own economic problems.
Fear of Communism; Germany needed to stand up to USSR.
Fear of another war.
