Why was magna carta signed?
King John was ruthless, he raised money to fund france wars aswell as abusing royal powers, conflicted with the church and abused the justice system
Barons rebelled forcing him to sign magna carta
What did magna carta do?
The monarch cant raise tax without the people consent
Need the rigt to trial with a jury
-Right to due porcess in the law was guaranteed
-Justicehad to be free and fair
-Nobles could select a committe of 25 to scrutinise the actions of the king

Paved the way to the creation of parliament

Today only three articles (or clauses) of the 1297 Magna Carta remain in force in every part of the UK except Scotland:
the freedom of the Church of England (clause 1)
the “ancient liberties” of the City of London (clause 13 in the 1215 charter, clause 9 in the 1297 statute)
a right to due legal process (clauses 39 and 40 in the 1215 charter, clause 29 in the 1297 statute).
