25
Q

How should we respond to someone who uses colosions 2:8 to say philosophy os evil

A

They misunderstand the context
Paul is warning them not to mislead by false teachers so “philosophy” here is referring to ideas that go against God’s word he is not talking about philosophy in general but a specific viewpoint (which is what philosophy is, a persons viewpoint) a view point that was that specific person’s philosophy, a philosophy that is: vain, after man’s ways, worldly, and not of Christ.

The word philosophy does not mean false teaching it is about other peoples view points

Philosophy is Living thoughtfully thinking for yourself about the world around you asking questions and gaining you own opinions . I think that this is what God wants us to do. He wants us to think for purselves and form our own opinions . And everyone does practice philosophy to a certain extent even people who condem it for some reason because it is in human nature.

There are other areas that have cooruption in their teachings such as some branches of science education , and politics. However not all branches in these aras are evil and go against Gods word and it is not frowned upon to study them . any form of learning that detract from God and leads people astray is bad not just philosophy . that is what Paul is talking about teaching anything that causes people to lose faith.
