Elton Mayo (1880-1949).
Mayo’s work gave rise to the term hawthorne effect which is the tendency for people being studied to act differently because they know they are being studied.
What did Mayo realize?
Mayo concluded that efficiency (i.e. scientific management) is important but not the only factor that influences job performance. There are human factors like recognition, group dynamics, and others that are relevant too. Human factors; hence, the human relations movement was born and we are still in that movement today.
