what does the NHS stand for?
National health service
what was before the NHS
national insurance. this is only for people that work. each month parts of workers salary would be take.
this did not apply to babies, housewives or elderly.
why did the NHS establish
WW2 - the government had to involve itself in healthcare because people recieved injury during the Blitz.
people got used to the idea that the government helping them rather themselves
how did ww2 soldiers impact the start of the NHS
they deserved to be looked after by the country which is why they have voted labour
what also helped the NHS
the development in medicine e.g penicilin etc.
who help to plan the NHS
Beveridge - “cradle to grave all pay all benefit service free at point of delivery”.
NHS will be paid via tax and not be given a bill.
very attractive to poorer people.
midwife, specialist, all doctors will be trained by the government.
who resistant
rich people did not want to pay tax
health care was a personal care
neverending desire for the government to pay for people
doctors cannot charge people how they wanted- lose money and freedom
